China's Ministry of National Defense confirmed on Friday that it will deploy its 48th naval escort task group to the Gulf of Aden and waters off Somalia in mid-October. The fleet will include the destroyer Tangshan, the frigate Daqing, and the supply ship Taihu. A spokesperson noted that the mission continues China's commitment, which began in December 2008, to protect international shipping lanes and promote regional stability.
